Partnership

RSAS has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Addis Ababa University (AAU), School of Psychology in the College of Education and Behavioral Studies and is partnering with Tsehay Chora School. Tsehay Chora is a K-8 public school located in a very low-income area in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Professors Moges and Abera from AAU will assess and screen the twenty-five at-risk students, students with disability, and special needs children from Tsehay Chora; they will recommend educational programs, resources, and tools needed to keep the students in school and succeed. Two special education teachers will be hired to effectively collaborate with the professors.

Our Vision

R.S. Africa Special is a not-for-profit organization that is committed to being the voice of advocacy for the children of Africa with special needs who otherwise cannot speak for themselves. We believe that differences in people’s ability is the strength of a society and that children with disabilities bring a unique outlook and understanding that further strengthens the overall well-being of a society. Ultimately, the vision of R.S. Africa Special is to make education accessible and affordable to special need children of Africa.

Our Mission

The mission of R.S. Africa Special is to raise the attention of the government and people of Ethiopia to the need to effectively embrace children with special needs and hence mainstream them into the existing educational programs and the country's Education and Training Policy. In fulfilling this mission, R.S. Africa Special NFP will raise awareness using all media outlets, including door to door campaigns. In addition, R.S. Africa Special will develop practical screening and assessment tools for children with learning disabilities and establish educational programs throughout Ethiopia. In order to further assist the children with special needs and their parents, R.S. Africa Special will establish consulting, training and counseling center. This includes organizing family-based, school-based and community-based programs.
